Chatting About Music: A Continuing Series
Any good story needs a back story.
So as you may have heard, Book Expo America (BEA) was this weekend in Los Angeles. It's basically a big trade show for book publishing where you finally meet the people you've spent the past year talking to on the phone. No one really cares about that, though, because it's all about the parties. Basically, we book people go anywhere where there's food and drinks, so yeah, BEA is fun.
This year, though, Prince--yes, freaking Prince--had an exclusive party (!) at his house (!!) where he performed for less than 200 people(!!!). Now, if I had been one of those people, I would not be blogging about it, but rather screaming from the rooftops, "Holy shit, I was just in Prince's house!" And then my neighbors would have been like, "Shut up, it's the middle of the night!" and I would have been like, "Jealous much?!"
But of course, because I was not at said party, that conversation did not happen. The concert was supposed to start at 11pm, but Prince didn't go onstage until almost 2am. Because, you know, he's Prince and if he wants to take his sweet time, it's his house and you can just go home if you don't like it.
Anyway, my lovely friend Johanna and I were amused by all of this. Then again, we are amused by almost anything.
All this discussion about Prince is quite timely. This might be old news to you, but when he performed at Coachella last month, Prince did a cover of Radiohead's "Creep". So of course, every second person put a video of it on YouTube, but Prince has "issues" with YouTube, so his management pulled all the clips, claiming copyright infringement.
But here's the thing: Radiohead owns the copyright to "Creep", not Prince, so Radiohead was like, "Uh, Prince, seriously?" (I'm paraphrasing.) Thom Yorke can't even watch the clip on YouTube, poor guy!
And just for the record, I get chills every time I hear this song.
Radiohead, "Fake Plastic Trees" live at Glastonbury 2003
ooohhhhh.....music.
I just downloaded a gazillion songs onto my psp console thingie and I love all of it! But now that I'm on your blog, I notice that I still have a lot more to go. Sigh. The music never ends. Oh, and this post is L. O. L. funny, by the way. Ha. Please. Stop. My sides.

Hey, Robin! Do you live in the YA Mansion? See Maureen Johnson's blog if you have no idea what I'm saying.
